Book Review: Family of Distorted Minds: A True Story by Deborah J. Rose

I recieved a free copy of this book for review.

Book Description:
Why had God placed this life in front of me? To start with, the Lord never gives you more than you can handle.

I would be born to parents Joyce and Denny Grant, married at ages seventeen and twenty-three. It was a match made by way of Denny’s maternal aunt, Kitty. In 1956 she was my mother’s roommate in Camarillo, a California insane asylum. This marriage was a slice of ****, giving birth to three children. Joyce would kill her second born, Jimmy, followed by her hanging me as a two-year-old, three years later.

Where does one’s life go from there? What were the reasons for these events—or those that followed, many of which my mind blacked out? What was God’s plan? What would I learn? When would I begin to remember . . .

My thoughts:
Family of Distorted Minds can be tough to read for some because it deals with topics like child abuse, rape, and more. Knowing that this is a true story makes it even more difficult because you know that all these horrible things actually did happen to the author and her family. Even though reading everything Deborah went through broke my heart I loved reading this book. While reading Family of Distorted Minds I could feel Deborahs pain the mental, emotional, and even the physical. I could actually feel her neck pain everytime she would mention it. I think it's a wonderful talent when an author can make you feel all the emotions good and bad. Writing a book like this must have been so hard. Thank you Deborah for sharing your story and choosing not to repeat the cycle of abuse. I give this book 5 stars.
